Located on the very edge of the historic Middleham we have put together a special package for anyone interested in horse racing – a fun and entertaining morning including breakfast, a trip to the gallops and an informative stable tour with trainer Micky Hammond.
Micky began his training career in 1990 from Tupgill Park near Middleham, after finishing a very successful career as a National Hunt jockey.
Since 2002 the place that Micky calls home has been Oakwood Stables; a modern and welcoming 45 box yard.
Micky has trained over 700 winners and the dual-purpose handler enjoyed his best ever tally on the Flat with 12 winners in 2015, and a fantastic 59 under both codes.
Current stable stars include Just Cameron, Maxie T and Caraline.
Selective days (March to October inclusive)
Start time: 8am (three-hour tour)
The fun starts the moment you arrive at Oakwood Stables, where the day commences with a trip to the gallops to watch the string being put through their paces at first hand.
Next it's back to the stable for an informative tour to gain an insiders' view to some of the equine stars 'looking over the doors' and you'll get a chance to ask Micky about the workings of a racing yard.
You'll round off your morning tour with breakfast (bacon or sausage butty) and a tea or coffee and enjoy listening to tales 'from the horse's mouth' from Micky's career in the Sport of Kings..
