Dixon dreaming of bold Doncaster showing

Scott Dixon believes Cock Of The North might just be the one to make the headlines in Saturday's Racing Post Trophy.

Cock Of The North, who landed the Brocklesby at Town Moor on his debut back in March, is rated a 25/1 shot with bookmakers for the final Group 1 Flat race of the season in Britain and Ireland.

Dixon told www.cdhorseracingtours.com: "We know we are pitching Cock Of The North in high and without question Elm Park is a worthy favourite and very much the one to beat.

"However, for a small yard of 30 horses we feel we should take our chance at Group 1 glory. It's a small field and if we get much more rain it might cut up even further and the likes of Celestial Path may not run.

"We think Cock Of The North is a better horse than he was given credit for when he effectively threw the race away at Sandown in the Solario Stakes, which was won by Aktabantay. He didn't handle the bend and hung badly and if he'd have kept straight I think we would have won.

"We know that Cock Of The North likes Donny, okay that was back in March and over five furlongs, but he's been staying on in his races.

"We'd be over the moon with a place and super delighted, if he could finish close in the Racing Post Trophy then the dream would be next year's 2000 Guineas.

"We are obviously thinking ahead there, but I do hope and think that he will train on, he's a nice horse and different to any I've trained. He'll get better with age and the pedigree suggests a step-up in trip won't be a problem.

"We're all very proud to have a horse like Cock Of The North in the yard and the most important thing is that he comes back safe and sound."
